Funeral services for Mrs. Dolly Yates Grant, age 81, of Louisville, will be held Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 2 p.m. from the Louisville United Methodist Church. The Rev. Glenda Carlson will officiate and burial will follow in the Louisville Cemetery with Kent Funeral Home of Clayton directing. Mrs. Grant died Friday, May 26, at her residence after an extended illness. Mrs. Grant was born January 15, 1936 in Phenix City, Al., to the late Charles and Mildred Gibson Yates. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Anna Rebecca Mancuso and a sister, Kay Kelley. "Miss Dolly" as she was affectionately known by all had been a resident of Louisville for the past 58 years. She taught in the public-school system for a few years before she started a kindergarten in Louisville in 1966. She spent over 35 years in the field of education teaching hundreds of mostly four and five-year-old kindergarteners. She lovingly taught little minds how to say and write their ABC's and 1,2,3's and colors. She taught them how to pledge allegiance to the flag, thank God for their food, and sing songs. Manners, sharing and taking turns were also on the list. Her goal always seem to be to give everyone a great start at learning and being their best. "Miss Dolly" loved her job, her work and all of her children. She was a faithful and active member of her church, Louisville Methodist, where she taught Sunday School to the kindergarten aged children for many years. Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Jimmy Grant, Louisville; a son and daughter in law, Jim and Angela Grant, Jr., Suwanee, GA.; two daughters and sons in law, Susan Grant and Dane Brown, Vestavia Hills, AL., and Angela Grant and Frank Mancuso, Clarksville, TN.; five grandchildren, Ben Grant, Grace Grant, Katie Brown, Grant Brown and Molly Mancuso. And a special thanks to Donna Cooper for her love and compassion for "Miss Dolly" the past two and a half years and to Kindred Hospice of Dothan for their support, love and kindness. The family suggest in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Louisville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 62, Louisville, Al. 36048, or the Louisville Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 4, Louisville, Al., 36048, or the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, Tn. 38148-0142.
