Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, from Skipperville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Forrest Weekley officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the church.
Mr. Baker was born July 2, 1917, a native of Dale County. He was the son of the late C.C. Baker and Lillie Kansas Loftin Baker.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Pearson Baker, and a sister, Lois Morton. Mr. Baker graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor's degree in architecture. He also did extra study in church architecture at the University of Oregon. Mr. Baker is a veteran of World War II, having served in the South Pacific. He was licensed as an architect in several states and worked as an architect in Ozark, Gulfport, Miss., Omaha, Neb., Andalusia, Nashville, Tenn., and retired as an architect with Alabama Power Company in Birmingham. Douglas was a life member of Kiwanis International and served as Alabama State Secretary. Additionally, he held the position of secretary in several clubs. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, sang in the choir wherever he served and served as organist at First Methodist in Andalusia for a time. Mr. Baker was an accomplished weaver. He had been a member of the Fiber Guild in Birmingham and training in weaving at Brasstown, N.C.
He is survived by three sisters, Mabel Baker, Skipperville, Virginia Mills, Andalusia, and Olive Baker, Skipperville. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Pallbearers will be Larry Baker, Bill Baker, Bill Bixby, Ernest Mills, Oliver Mills and Kirk Mills.
