Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Love-Hill Assembly of God Church. Officiating will be the Revs. Marvel Turvin, Eddie Littlefield and Dorman Jenkins. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home in Dothan. The interment will immediately follow the service at Union Hill Baptist Church cemetery in Cottonwood. Other than scheduled visitation times the family will gather at the residence of Mrs. Kirkland (5070 Gene Terry Rd. Cottonwood.)
Mrs. Kirkland was born on April 11, 1919, in Houston County. She was a lifetime resident of Houston County and a member of Love Hill Assembly of God in the Lovetown Community. She was a homemaker who loved spending time with her family. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. In October of 2007, Mrs. Kirkland and Mr. Alvin Kirkland would have been married 70 years.
She was preceded in death by parents, Phil Scofield and Coreen Money Scofield Fennell; step-father, Willis Fennell; son-in-law, Buddy Smith; brother-in-law, Albert Kirkland.
She is survived by husband, Alvin Kirkland of Cottonwood; son, Lamar Kirkland and wife, Teresa of Cottonwood, two daughters, Janice Smith of Cottonwood and Seretha Oliver and husband, Sammy of Cottonwood; grandchildren, Carrie Strebeck and husband, Braska, Kellie Tolar and husband, Jason, Amy Kirkland, Garry Smith and wife, Steffanie, Johnny Smith and wife, Joni, Jason Kirkland and wife, Melissa and Chad Kirkland; two nephews, Gene Kirkland and Rex Kirkland; sister-in-law, Annie Lou Kirkland of Cottonwood; eight great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their love and gratitude for the care given to Mrs. Kirkland over the past months to Addie Nell Traylor, Nell Trawick, Annette Baker, Mattie Folds, Inez Rhodes, Margie Temples, Sue Bolin, Rhonda Bolin, Lisa Martin, Lee Allen Appling, Anner Johnson, Jackie Morrison. Also special thanks to Wiregrass Hospice and staff members, Rosie Smith, Cynthia Longgrear, Jenetha Oliver, Michelle Stephens, Shirley Lane, and Tanya Champion.
