Mr. Eric Michael Layer, age 22, a resident of Dothan, died unexpectedly Friday December 30, 2016 at his residence. A Celebration of Life service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, January 5, 2017 at the Covenant United Methodist Church with Reverend Kyle Gatlin officiating. Cremation will follow the services with Kendall Glover directing. The family will be receiving friends from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Covenant United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Covenant United Methodist Church, 3610 West Main Street, Dothan, Alabama, 36305 or the Humane Society of one's choice. Eric was born on May 29, 1994 in Newport Beach, California the son of William (Bill) Joseph Layer, Jr. and Ann Elizabeth Kelsay Layer. He was a graduate of the class of 2012 at Providence Christian School and was attending Wallace College and Auburn University. Eric was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church. Eric enjoyed spending time with his family, his friends, his cat, Sherlock and the family pets. His hobbies included watching football, playing X-box with anyone who was willing to play or watch. He was known for his quirky sense of humor and loved making everyone laugh. He was preceded in death by paternal grandmother, Alice Layer and maternal grandfather, Curtis Dwight Kelsay. Survivors include: Parents, Bill and Ann Layer, Dothan; sister, Kelsay Ann Layer, Dothan; paternal grandfather, William Joseph Layer, Sr., Glen Mills, PA.; maternal grandmother, Fern Frances Kelsay, Fayettville, AR.; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
