Hazel Dunn Obituary

Hazel Wise Dunn

Hazel Wise Dunn, 82, of Hacoda passed away quietly from this life in a Geneva hospital on April 24, 2022. Her daughters were with her.

She was born in Geneva County, AL on January 7, 1940, as the first child of Woodrow and Lucille Tew Wise. Except for some time spent in Birmingham where she attended Alverson-Draughon College (and was commended for "excellent work in accounting") and Ft. Walton where she worked as a bookkeeper, she spent her entire life in Geneva County, Alabama.

She was the valedictorian of Samson High School's Class of 1958, and she looked forward to reunions with former classmates. She could quickly pull out a yearbook to discuss how people and events were related.

She loved entertaining family and friends in her home (no one ever missed a home-cooked meal), and she made time to sew for herself and her daughters and to crochet beautiful projects. She reminisced often about Saturday afternoons spent watching cowboy movies in Samson, and in recent years, she found great joy in re-watching Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, the Lone Ranger, and "Hoppie" on cable television. She also loved having time to complete the Wonderword puzzle every day in The Dothan Eagle.

Her husband of 57 years, Wedsel, preceded her in death, but she is survived by her two daughters, Ginger Dunn and Wendy Skurka (Lee); her grandchildren, Garrett Skurka, Miranda Skurka, and Kelsey Skurka; and two brothers, Norman Wise (Patricia) and Terry Wise (Havlin).

No local services will be held. She will be interred at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo with her husband. No words can describe how much she will be missed.
