James Ghostley Obituary

James David Ghostley, formerly of Dothan, died unexpectedly at his residence in Tucson, Arizona on October 12, 2018. He was 30-years old and had struggled with addiction. James was born to his mother Valerie Rundell and his father Captain David Ghostley at Fort Wainwright, Alaska on April 7, 1988. His father's following assignment was at Fort Rucker in 1990. James and his sisters were primarily raised in Dothan. James attended Emmanuel Christian School, Carver Middle School, and Northview. James loved the lakes of Minnesota, the mountains of Montana, music, and the beaches on the Gulf; but far more than that, he loved his family and friends. He was a large, kindhearted soul who always seemed to find a smile to brighten everyone's day. He was also well known for his brilliance and extraordinary humor. As a child, he enjoyed Cub Scouts and participating in school plays. He also took first place in a portion of the Southeast Conference of Christian Schools Academic Competition held in Atlanta. During his teen years, he competed on the Varsity Academics team and the Chess Club at Northview. Throughout his life, he loved annual family trips to Minnesota to visit his grandparents, cousins, and aunts and uncles. In 2013, James met the love of his life, Lauren Arnold from Tucson. They made a beautiful couple and blessed us with their daughter Zoë Mae Ghostley, now 4-years old. James grew extremely close to Lauren's family who all loved him as their own. James is survived by his paternal grandparents Dr. and Mrs. James Ghostley (Bemidji, MN), his maternal grandfather Richard Rundell (Blaine, MN), his mother Valerie Rundell (Destin, FL), his father Dr. David Ghostley and stepmother Becky Ghostley (Dothan), his sister Mary (Ghostley) Moe (Casa Grande, AZ), his brother Kyle Ghostley (Oregon, WI), his sister Melody Ghostley (Miramar Beach, FL), his stepbrother Jesse Morris (Orlando, FL), his sister Kaitlynn Ghostley (Dothan), his sister Natalie (Glover) Capra (Dothan), his sister Isabella Tallman (Destin) and his brother Price Divine (Destin). Perhaps most worthy is that James is survived by his beautiful daughter Zoë Mae Ghostley (Tucson). Finally, James is survived by his beloved lady Lauren Arnold and her loving parents Bill and Diane Arnold all from Tucson. James was preceded in death by his grandmother Stella Rundell (Wasilla, AK). James had a large, very alive presence and life without him is not at all the same for his family. He was a Christian and his wish was to be cremated. A Remembrance Service will be officiated by Pastor Roy Rogers at Harvest Church, 2727 Fortner Street, Dothan on December 3, 2018 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel. His family will begin receiving visitors at 1:00 PM. Anyone who knew James or his family is welcome. Please come out to bid James a formal farewell and to meet the two most important people in his adult life, Lauren and their daughter Zoë. One of James' Biblical comforts was Romans 8:17: Now if we are children, then we are heirsheirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in His glory.
