James Patton Obituary

U.S. Army (RET) Major James Darrell Patton, died Friday January 20, 2017 after an extended illness. He was 83. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday March 4, 2017 at the Glover Funeral Home Chapel in Dothan, Alabama with Ben Stanfield providing the eulogy. Full Military Honors will follow with Kendall Glover directing. The family will be receiving friends from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. prior to the services at Glover Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in Mr. Patton's name be made to the Wiregrass Shrine Club, PO Box 1472, Dothan, AL, 36302. Born November 8, 1933 in Augusta, Kansas, he joined the Army to become a helicopter pilot. Spending 23 years as a dedicated soldier, he retired and began another military career developing manuals for helicopters as a Civil Service employee for 20 years. He was 32 Degree Mason and a Lifetime Shriner. He is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Patricia Merle Brooks Patton and his parents William O. and Mary J. Patton of Casper, Wyoming. He is survived by his 4 children, Sharon J. Gustat, (Stephen) Enterprise; James D. Patton, Jr. (Ruth) Pensacola, FL; Deborah Patton Moon (W.C.) Dothan; John W. Patton, Guyman, OK; Grandchildren, Steve, Sean (Crystal), Jonathan, Patricia, Amy (Paul), Jennifer (Starsky), Michelle (Ben), David (Bridgette), Danny and Johnny; 18 great-grandchildren; and his sisters Barbara O'Neal and Shirley Hutchinson.
