John D. Sexton Obituary

Mr. John D. Sexton of Ozark passed away at his home Tuesday, May 27, 2008, following a long illness. He was 77.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 29, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Glen Vandzandt and Brother Raymond Elliott officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memory Gardens with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 28, 2008, from 6 until 8 p.m. from the chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home. The family will receive friends during this time. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity.
John, the son of the late J.J. and Sena Sexton, was born Aug. 15, 1930, at Cheaha, Clay County. After high school in Lincoln, he served two years, 1949-50, in the U.S. Air Force before returning to Alabama where he worked primarily as an aircraft maintenance technician for Hayes Aircraft in Birmingham. He transferred to Fort Rucker in 1960, Fort Stewart, Ga., in 1966, and then back to Fort Rucker, where he later retired in 1995.
Survivors include his wife, Sara Jo Sexton, Ozark; four sons and their wives, John and Wendy Sexton, Enterprise, Jack and Aynur Sexton, Washington, D.C., Joe and Phyllis Sexton, Ozark, and Jeffery and Linda Sexton, Ariton; 11 brothers and sisters of a family of 20, Pauline Butterworth, Lincoln, Willard Sexton, Anniston, Della Burell, Talladega, E.P. and Ruth Sexton, Weaver, Jim and Imo Sexton, Greenville, S.C., Ernie Sexton, Spokane, Wash., Lillie Ansley, Maggie Valley, N.C., Zell Copeland, Talladega, Luther and Hedi Sexton, Prattville, Elaine Lehne, St. Joseph, Mo., Jonah Clark and Caroline Sexton, Selma; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews throughout the United States.
