Mike Payne Obituary

Mike Payne, a resident of County Road 14, Newville, died Thursday morning, Jan. 8, 2009, in the emergency room of a Dothan hospital. He was 59.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, in the Concord Baptist Church with the Rev. James A. Rich officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday at the mortuary in Headland. At other times, the family will be at the home of a daughter, Lisa Beasley, 102 Kane Road, Headland.
Mr. Payne was born in Rome, Georgia but was reared in La Grange, Georgia, son of the late Daniel Webster Payne and Edna Estelle Morgan Payne. He lived in San Pablo City, Laguna, Phillipines, for seven years before moving to Newville in August 2005. Mr. Payne served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam Conflict where he received a Purple Heart. He retired, due to disability, as a plumber and electrician in residential construction. Mr. Payne was a member of the Concord Baptist Church.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Paz Dellova Payne, Newville; three daughters, Lisa Beasley and husband, Brian Beasley, Headland, Michelle Payne and Nicole Payne, both of Newville; two sons, Chris Payne, Headland; John Payne and wife, Jamie Payne, Headland; two brothers, Dan Payne and wife, Jo Payne, Blairsville, Ga., John Robert Payne, Newnan, Ga.; four grandchildren, Gracie Beasley, Ty Beasley, David Payne and Karson Payne; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Deacons of the Concord Baptist Church.

Mike and I were in the LaGrange Bass Club years ago together.I have lots of good memories of fishing with him and remember he was a good fisherman. Am so sorry to hear of his death, read it in the LaGrange paper tonight.
