Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, at Memory Hill Cemetery with Dr. George Gilbert officiating. The family is receiving visitors at home.
In lieu of flowers and food, memorials can be made to the "In Christ's Name Fund", First United Methodist Church, 1380 W. Main St., Dothan, AL 36301, Wiregrass Hospice, P.O. Drawer 2127, Dothan, AL 36302, or your favorite charity.
Mr. Ennis was born Dec. 5, 1925, and raised in Dothan. He was a 1944 graduate of Dothan High School. He attended Auburn University his freshman year and later graduated from the University of Alabama in 1947, with a Bachelor of Science degree. On Jan.25, 1948, he married Christine Blatsios of Dothan at Foster Street Methodist Church. He worked for Commercial Credit Corporation from 1948 until his retirement in 1985. Following his retirement, he continued his education at Troy State University Dothan and George C. Wallace Community College. He also served as a member of the senior studies advisory committee at Troy State University Dothan. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and a former member of the Kiwanis Club of Dothan.
Mr. Ennis was preceded in death by his parents, Reece Hilliard Ennis Sr. and Etta Whiddon Ennis; a son, Reece Hilliard Ennis III; and dear friends and fellow members of the Whiners Club, Dr. Sam Jones and Dr. Jennings Douglass.
He is survived by his wife, Christine Blatsios Ennis of Dothan; a daughter, Nevin Ennis Cherry of Dothan; a son, Andrew Todd Ennis and his wife, Sandra McEntee Ennis of St. Charles, Ill.; a grandson, Dr. Samuel Alex Cherry III. of Birmingham; a granddaughter, Christine Cherry Irwin and her husband, Benjamin Ab Irwin of Dothan; granddaughters, Jessica Ann Ennis and Ashley Hunter Ennis of St. Charles; sister-in-law, Iona Blatsios Stephen of Tuscaloosa; and dear friend, Christopher Lee Gagliano of Birmingham.
Honorary pallbearers are Peter Albright, Henry Beatty, Alton Boyd, Stephen Danzie, Lee Dunnam, Christopher Gagliano, J.D. Holman, Ben Irwin, Dr. Louis Johnson, Carl King, Buren McArdle, Dr. Press Thornton, C. V. Wallace, Harold Wiggins and Phillip Wiggins.
The family wishes to thank his caregivers, Gayvon Hart and June Dease, and those from Wiregrass Hospice, including Sandra Cherry, Corina Lemos and Jackie Luckett.
