RICHARD ALDERSON Obituary

Richard Boyce Alderson Richard Boyce Alderson, a resident of Columbia, died Monday, May 9, 2011, at his home. He was 56. Memorial services, with military honors, will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 13, 2011, in the First Baptist Church of Columbia with Reverend Randall Johnson officiating. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Friday in the church sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Columbia, P.O. Box 267, Columbia, AL 36319. Mr. Alderson was a native of Foley, Alabama and graduated from high school in Stone Mountain, Georgia. He served six years in the U. S. Navy and later retired with rank of Captain from the 1203rd Engineering Battalion, Army National Guard in Dothan, where he served as the Company Commander. Mr. Alderson was also retired from Alabama Power Company at the Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant. He received a B.S. Degree in Nuclear Science Management from Troy University. Mr. Alderson was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church and attended the First Baptist Church of Columbia. He was a former member of the Columbia Ambulance Rescue Emergency Squad. Mr. Alderson was preceded in death by his mother, Celia Sosa Alderson. Surviving relatives include his wife, Pamela Sue McCurry Alderson, Columbia; two sons, Chris Collins and wife, Stacy, Houston, TX; Richard Jason Alderson and wife, Leslie, Fredericksburg, VA; a daughter, Anna Alderson Roth and husband, Bruno, Atlanta, GA; his father, John Berlin Alderson, a resident of Columbia and Tampa, FL; five grandchildren, Ethan Collins, Lauren Grace Collins, Aiden Alderson, Alex Roth and Chloe Roth; three sisters, Patricia Adams, Carolyn Alderson and Diane Alderson, all of Tampa, FL; Holman-Headland Mortuary, (334) 693-3371, www.holmanmortuaries.com is in charge of arrangements.
