RICHARD UNEKIS Obituary

Richard Joseph Unekis Richard Joseph Unekis of Enterprise, passed away Thursday, September 17, 2009 at Medical Center Enterprise. He was 83. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 21, 2009 at Searcy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Johnny Bryant officiating. Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, September 20, 2009. Mr. Unekis was a member of Christ Community Church of God and the Primetimers Group in that church. A graduate of the University of Illinois, Mr. Unekis earned his doctorate of Law degree, (J.D.) from Loyola University in New Orleans, LA. He was a former member of the Board of Directors of Springvale Terrace Nursing Home in Silver Spring, MD. Mr. Unekis was the author of the book, The Chase, which was made into a movie by 20th Century Fox. His book earned the Edgar Allen Poe Raven Award for best first of the genre for the year. The book was also published in seven countries under different titles. Survivors include his wife, Irma Elaine Unekis, Enterprise; daughter, Ann Campbell of Westminster, MD; 3 sons, John Unekis (Valerie), Fairfax, VA, James Unekis (Annemarie), Baltimore, MD, and Michael Unekis (Christy), Scottsdale, AZ; he had 12 grandchildren, 11 of whom survive; 1 sister, Mary McCon-nell, Covington, IN; brother, Joseph Unekis, Manhattan, KS.
