Richard Whitehurst Obituary

Dr. Richard Marion Whitehurst, Sr., age 84, a resident of Dothan, died Friday, February 24, 2017 at his residence. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 26, 2017 at the Glover Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Troy West officiating and Kendall Glover directing. The family will be receiving friends following the services at Glover Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Wilmer Hall Children's Home, 3811 Old Shell Road, Mobile, AL 36608 or to the Boys Club of Dothan, 457 S. Alice St., Dothan, AL 36301. Dr. Whitehurst was born on April 20, 1932 in Birmingham the son of Lee Roy Whitehurst and Ruth Cook Whitehurst. He was a Graduate of Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery; University of Alabama and the University of Alabama Medical School. Dr. Whitehurst practiced in Eufaula for 16 years and in Dothan for 21 years and retired in 1999. He was past President of the Eufaula Rotary Club. Dr. Whitehurst was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Harry Whitehurst and William (Bill) Whitehurst. Survivors include: Wife of 61 years, Mary Elizabeth Turner Whitehurst, Dothan; 6 sons, Dr. Richard Whitehurst (Connie), Fairhope; Dr. Steven Whitehurst (Janet), Pittsburgh, PA.; Alan Whitehurst, Birmingham; Dale Whitehurst (Susan), Chelsea; Tony Whitehurst (Karla), Headland; Dr. Jeffrey Whitehurst (Dana), Dothan; 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
