Lt. Col (Ret) Robin (Bob) McCamy Barrett, Jr., October 27, 1928-June 15, 2016, Born and raised in Dalton, Georgia, Bob, 87, passed away from complications due to a stroke at The Chester Sims Veterans Nursing home. At the age of 19, he embarked on a lifetime military career, enlisting with the US Army infantry. He was shortly promoted for training, and became a helicopter and fixed wing pilot, graduating from The Marion Military Institute. He earned The Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He met, and married the love of his life, Martha Marlowe January 20, 1951 and together they traveled the US and Europe with his career, including two tours of duty in Germany. Their union has produced 4 sons: Stephen, Michael, Mark and Stuart. The family settled in Dothan, Alabama upon his military retirement in July, 1968, where he became a licensed insurance broker & licensed real estate broker. Bob was an avid fisherman, who never met a stranger, always had a story to tell, and would always offer a glass of "friendship". He was predeceased by his parents, Robin Sr & Betty; a sister, Barbara; and son, Stephen. He is survived by his wife, Martha (Panama City Beach, FL); sons and daughter in law; Michael (Sanger, TX) Mark (Hartford, AL) and Stuart & Patti (Panama City Beach, Florida) ; 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held at Kent Forest Lawn 2403 Harrison Ave, Panama City, FL 32405 at 3pm June 25, 2016 with the Rev. Virgil Tillman officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made, in his honor, to The Emerald Coast VFW Post 10555 17680 Ashley Drive; Panama City Beach, FL. 32413.
