Ruby Worrell Houston, a former resident of Columbia, died early Friday morning, May 19, 2017, in the Extendicare Health & Rehab Center in Dothan. She was 89. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, May 21, 2017, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Stephen Windham and Reverend Larry Dykes officiating. Burial will follow in the Shiloh Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery, near Columbia. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. Saturday at the mortuary in Headland. Mrs. Houston was born and reared in Houston County, daughter of the late Yarbrough Worrell and Flora Raley Worrell. She lived most of her adult lifetime in the Sigma Community. Mrs. Houston was an active member of the Shiloh Free Will Baptist Church where she served as President of the W.M.U. She was retired as a Supervisor from Wex-Tex Mfg. Co. of Ashford. Mrs. Houston was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Jack Houston, three sisters, Evelyn Duke, Mary Tew, and Naomi Ruth Andrews, and a brother, Beachum Worrell. Surviving relatives include three daughters, Glenda Houston Money (Jimmy), Blakely, GA: Linda Houston Bruner (Guy), Ashford; Sandra (Sandi) Houston, Dothan; two sons, Tyler (Sonny) Houston (Linda), Lake Seminole, GA; and Thomas Wayne (Tommy) Houston (Tabatha), Headland; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. Serving as active pallbearers will be Kyle Houston, Clay Houston, Kevin Bruner, Matthew Houston, Wesley Brown, Wayne Lewis, Justin Kirkland, Jacob Kirkland and Rusty Money, USAF, and Josh Gatewood, U.S. Army. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff and nurses of Extendicare Health & Rehab, her church family, and Kindred Hospice for the loving care and kindness shown to Mrs. Houston.
