Ruth Hazel Odom Fellows God must have said, "Well done, good and faithful servant," when He called Ruth Odom Fellows home on Thursday, January 30, 2014, as she passed peacefully from this life in Auburn, Alabama. She was born March 17, 1922 to Houston and Vickey Odom in Gordon, Alabama, where she lived until marrying Hugh L. Fellows in 1942. Having met when she was 12 and he was 14, they married the day after his graduation from Auburn (API) and enjoyed 68 years together until separated by his death in 2010. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Houston, James and Benjamin Odom. In pursuit of Hugh's career in the aeronautical industry, they lived first in Nashville, then several years in Atlanta while their children were very young, but also spent a few years in Ashford and many years in Dothan where their children grew up and where she worked alongside her husband in the family business, General Trailers. When he closed out his career in 1991, in Tucson, Arizona, they chose to retire to Auburn to be near family. Through all those changes, she was the epitome of a Proverbs 31 woman, "an excellent wife" who was a devoted helpmate to her husband and "her children rise up and bless her". She delighted in her children and grandchildren who survive her: Children: Hugh (Patsy) Fellows, Auburn; Pam (John) Moon, Ringgold, GA; Paul (Cindy) Fellows, Notasulga; David (Becky) Fellows, Largo, FL; and Grandchildren: Mike (Carrie) Fellows, Auburn; Tiffany & Trey Moon, Ringgold; Jonathan Fellows, Largo; Whitney Fellows, Nashville, TN; Stephen Fellows, Atlanta, GA; Cara (John) Brownfield, Auburn; Ruth Ellen Fellows, Auburn; and Joseph Fellows, Notasulga. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren:Trinity, Gabrielle, Solomon, and Evangeline Fellows and sister-in-law, Edna Fellows Christmas, Auburn; as well as, several dearly loved nieces and nephews. She loved the Lord Jesus and was a faithful member at Lakeview Baptist Church. She was a prayer warrior and if she knew you, she probably has prayed for you. Her sweet servant spirit was evident to all who knew her. While she will be greatly missed, her loved ones rejoice at the fulfillment of God's precious promises in her life. The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to the nurses, techs, and staff at Bethany House who were such tender, loving caregivers these past many months. What a blessing they have been. Memorial service will be Sunday, February 2, 2014, at 3:30 p.m. at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home, Opelika, AL with Rev. Al Jackson officiating. Visitation with the family will be at 2:30, preceding the service. Burial at Town Creek Cemetery, Auburn, AL, will be at 10:00 a.m. the following Monday, February 3, 2014.
