Ruth Weed Obituary

Mrs. Ruth Ziglar Weed, age 96, of Ozark, died Tuesday morning, July 15, 2008, in Dale Medical Center.
Funeral services will be graveside 10 a.m. Thursday, July 17, 2008, at Woodlawn Memory Gardens with her nephew, the Rev. Bill Weed, officiating. Interment will follow, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4 until 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Mrs. Weed was born Dec. 29, 1911, in the Rocky Head community of Dale County to the late Lillie Belle Fain Ziglar and James William Ziglar. She graduated from Auburn University with a bachelor of science degree in education. Mrs. Weed taught elementary school in Dale County and in Anniston for 38 1/2 years until her retirement. During this time she was director of the Head Start Program for eight years. She was a member of Westview Heights United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Wesley Circle, a past member of the administrative board, and worked with the School of Rhymes Kindergarten. Mrs. Weed was also a member of the Dale County Retired Teachers Association and the Matron Study Club of Ozark. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James Arlis Weed; one grandson, Bryan Weed; and eight brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Dr. William James Pollock of Daphne; one son and daughter-in-law, James Arlis Jr. and Karen Shipp Weed of Reston, Va.; one grandson, Dr. Jeffrey Michael Pollock and wife, Erika of Portland, Ore.; two great-grandchildren, Emily Rebecca Pollock and John William Pollock.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may to made to Westview Heights United Methodist Church School of Rhymes Kindergarten, P.O. Box 1045, Ozark, Alabama 36361.

Barbara and Jimmy,

So sorry to hear of your loss. I am actually related through my grandfather, J. R Ziglar. I remember going to Rocky Head and visiting Aunt Lillie as a youngster and seeing Ruth. I also was in school at Alabama with you.

Mrs. Weed was one of the sweetest ladies ever. She loved kids and was very supportive of the youth at church. She will be dearly missed.
