Steve Simmons

Steve Dexter Simmons, beloved father and grandfather entered his Heavenly home on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 in Charlotte, NC after a long and courageous battle with ALS.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Friday, May 14, 2021 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jason Duren officiating. Entombment with full military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10-11 am on Friday.

Steve was born July 3, 1948, and he served in the Army as a Military Police Officer during the Vietnam War. He worked all around the country and the world for many years as a Data Engineer with GTE Telephone, Alltel Corporation and eventually retired from Windstream Communications in Charlotte in 2010.

Steve enjoyed fishing, watching sports, working on, and fixing things, and attending church but most of all he enjoyed spending time with family. He had a strong work ethic, a quick wit and a big heart; always willing to lend a helping hand.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his faithful companion, his beloved dog Fluffy.

Survivors include his two sons, Robert Simmons and Matthew Simmons; his grandchildren, Zackery, Zane, Owen, Anna, Evan, Zara and Alexander; and one great-granddaughter, Ruthie; his longtime companion and caregiver, Judy Howell; her daughter, her son, and her four grandchildren, Olivia, Anna, Will and Sam.
