I wanted to extend my deepest sympathies to the entire Abernathy family. I had known Thad since the sixth grade, at Harrand Creek Elementary School, and had the pleasure of getting to know him until we graduated together in 1993. He was warm and friendly to everyone he encoutered. I remember his smile most of all. I hope that all of the good memories you have of Thad will help you through this difficult period. My prayers are with you all.

Thad will truly be missed. He was always the epitome of joy, kindness and integrity...a man of honor. To the Abernathy Family,

I am saddened to hear about Thad's passing. I was Thad's teammate at Alabama and we use to compete against each other everyday in practice as he was a wide receiver and I was a defensive back. Thad was a great friend and a joy to be around. Every time I saw him, he always had a smile on his face. He will definitely be missed. You are in my thoughts and prayers. May God continue to comfort you during this difficult time.

Coach Abernathy and Family,
I was extremely saddened to learn of Thad's passing. It seems like just yesterday we were in the fieldhouse or on the football field joking around. I will always treasure those moments. Thad had a way of brightening everything and everyone around him and making you feel special. Come to think of it, I don't think I would have passed Chemistry without him :-) May God's love sustain you in this time of sadness and may the memories of Thad fill your heart with joy until you meet him again.

To family and friends,
It was with great sadness this evening that I received notification of Thad's passing. Thad called on me, a primary care physician, in his job as a pharmaceutical rep for for the last several years---and we developed a special friendship which I will miss in the years to come. Being a lifelong Alabama football fan myself, we had many enjoyable conversations about Coach Stallings, the Crimson Tide and football in general; but I can honestly say that during the time I knew him, he was always polite to everyone, modest to a fault, friendly, and very sincere ; I always felt that he was a fine young man with high moral standards. My last encounter with him was quite recently, and I will miss him greatly. May God bless the children he leaves.

Ragan-

There are no words that can adequately serve as comfort for what I know must be your sorrow. You and the children have not left my mind since Thursday. This passage from Romans is one that I have found to help when nothing else will.

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. Romans 5:1-5

Please accept our very deepest sympathy.

My deepest sympathies go out to the Abernathy family. Thad was a special young man and I have fond memories of him. Being several years older, I remember him being our ball boy on Friday nights and him running in the field house asking to wear my Wildcat jacket during the game. I told him he could if he would bring me water first during a time out. I was just a QB and probably the last one that needed water, but Thad would sprint to the huddle and give me the first drink during a time out. We became friends as we got older and I recently ran into Thad in Montgomery and we talked forever about Friday nights in the "hole"...I will miss Thad! Recently, I have found a Peace in my life and although we do not understand why and how we are going to make it to the next, Remember God is in control. Lean on Him!
