Claire Alline (Brown) Bardwell, age 79, was welcomed into the loving arms of her Savior on Nov. 29, 2021, in Colville, Washington, with her husband and five children at her side.
She was born on May 19, 1942, in Okanogan, Washington, but her family moved to Curlew, Washington, when she was in the third grade.
Claire was playful and active throughout her young life, participating in cheerleading and basketball in high school, and was the valedictorian of her 1960 graduating class.
In August of that same year, she married the love of her life, Sidney Charles Bardwell, the son of the couple from whom her family had once rented their Curlew home.
Together, she and Sid faced the joys and hardships of life, their love increasing for each other daily throughout 61 amazing years.
Claire and Sid soon welcomed their first child, Rick, in May of 1961, followed by Ron, Melanie, Rodger, and Sean.
Claire enjoyed a variety of outdoor activities, including gardening, fishing, mushroom hunting, and (most of all) camping. Her family has fond memories of camping trips throughout many wonderful summers.
The kids remember her canning and baking throughout their early years, remembering the delightful aroma of fresh bread and cookies that filled their home.
As the kids started to graduate from high school and leave the house, Claire was able to dedicate more of her time to genealogy, a growing passion passed along from her mother-in-law.
She also became more involved in the Stevens County Historical Society, not only tracing her genealogical lineage but also helping members of her community do the same.
In her later years, Sid and Claire enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, visiting 17 states on one of their trips. Her travels even took her to Salt Lake City, Utah, several times to gather more genealogical information.
Beyond any hobbies or pursuits, her greatest passion was for her family, and she was always thrilled when any of her children stopped by for a visit.
Her love and pride in them was always evident, no matter the circumstances.
She cherished each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, maintaining special relationships with them throughout the years.
Claire is preceded in death by her father, William Brown, and her mother, Genevieve (Layton) Novotney.
She is survived by her loving husband Sidney; her five children: Richard, Ronald, Melanie, Rodger, and Sean - and their spouses; her 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; her brother and four sisters; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Claire was laid to rest in a private ceremony at the Mountain View Park Cemetery in Colville on Dec. 7, 2021.
