Shelby Totty Obituary

On October 18, 2024 our beloved mother, Shelby Wray Totty, passed peacefully from this world. Shelby was a baker by trade and a quilter by hobby. A true artist, she made thousands and thousands of quilts that were given to all her family and donated around the world through charities, including to orphanages in Ukraine. There was never a craft that she was not adept at and all of her family enjoyed her boxes of Christmas cookies of every variety. She was a voracious reader and a sometimes fan of the Baltimore Ravens. Shelby loved fiercely with big bear hugs and was just as open about her dislikes. She loved having all her family gather for big celebrations and was particularly fond of making Thanksgiving dinner.

Shelby leaves behind her most prized possession, her large and growing family. She is survived by daughter Cindy Dunard and spouse Monte Dunard and grandchildren Juliet Wray and Nicholas Dunard, son Robert G. Saunders and his spouse Sherry Saunders and grandson Christopher Saunders and spouse Melissa Saunders and great-grandchildren Katherine Rose Saunders and Emanuel Graham Saunders, grandson Tyler Saunders and fiancé Gianella Carbajal, son Larry Totty and spouse Regina Totty, granddaughter Priscilla Totty and great-granddaughter Amiyah Worthington, grandson Rucker Totty, granddaughter Jennifer Wilson and spouse David Wilson and great-grandchildren Sy and Kali Rae Wilson, son John Totty, Sr and spouse Anita Totty and grandchildren John Totty, Jr. and Stephanie Totty, daughter Kimberly Green and spouse George Green, Sr. and granddaughter Staci Whitcomb and spouse Ronnie Whitcomb, great-grandchildren Samatha Green and great-great-grandchild Logan Green, great-grandchild Ryan Green and Chelsea Colvin and great-great-grandchild Gunner Green, and great-grandchild Ethan Green, grandchild George Green, Jr. and great grandchild Rylee Green, grandchild Jeff Green and Stevie Green and great grandchildren Cody and Kailee Green, grandchildren Billy Green and Chrissy Brooks and her spouse Brian Brooks, daughter Denise Gentry and spouse Cory Gentry and grandchild Cory Gentry III with spouse Josie Gentry, and granddaughter Ashley Starck with spouse Matthew Starck and great-grandchildren Madyson and Mason Starck. Shelby was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence R. Totty and youngest child Susan Totty.

Shelby was the center of our family and the foundation on which it grew. She was truly the wind beneath our wings.

At her request there are no formal funeral services, but rather a private family function to be held November 2, 2024.
