Christine McAvoy Obituary

Christine Alice (Collamore) McAvoy, 73, of Jamestown and formerly of Barrington, passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at home surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Albany, New York, a daughter of the late William "Oliver" and Olive Toohey Collamore, she spent her youth in Barrington, RI growing up waterskiing on the river, riding horses, and visiting family. She was a graduate of Barrington High School, class of 1970.

After meeting her former husband John Marshall McAvoy and raising their two children, she later went on to work in various retail roles in the area throughout her career. Christine "Chris" loved animals - particularly cats, had a passion for flowers and gardening and was a regular at her favorite beach Bakers Beach in Westport, MA.

Christine was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, and friend. She is survived by her two children William "Bill" McAvoy and his fiancé Jacquelyn Macek of Warwick; Erin Loya and her husband Justin of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina and three grandchildren; Evelyn Loya, Lillian Loya and Mara McAvoy, her sister; Lucinda Seward and her husband Michael of Rutland, Vermont and her sister-in-law and friend; Karen McAvoy of Barrington.

Later in life Christine moved to Jamestown with her longtime partner Joseph Clifford of Jamestown. She enjoyed walking along the water and visiting Beavertail State Park.

A Celebration of Life will be held later with details to follow.

Memorial contributions in her honor may be made to the Potter League, 87 Oliphant Lane, Middletown, RI 02842.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I worked with Christine at BBB. She was one of the kindest, and classiest women I knew. The world is a sadder place without her.

Dear Cindy,
I am so sorry to learn of Chrissy´s passing. "Back in the day" I was always flattered when people said we looked alike. I remember her as always sweet and kind and impeccably dressed. I hope fond and joyous memories you have of Chrissy will help you through this difficult time, and all the days to come.
Sincerely,
Sue
