Judith Swan

Swan|Judith P. Swan died November 5, 2022, at her home in Westport, MA. Judy was born January 14, 1934, in Providence, RI, as Elsie Judith Pemberton, to Edgar Lees Pemberton and Edna Pride Pemberton. She lived in various places in New England, including South Portland and Cape Elizabeth, Maine, and Warren and Barrington, RI. She was married to Henry M. Swan, her high school sweetheart, on January 23, 1954, in Grace Church, Bath, Maine.



She is survived by Henry and their three children: Meredith P. Swan, Katharine B. Swan, and Nathaniel H. Swan, as well as by her son-in-law, Peter W. Drake, and daughter-in-law, Michelle M. Swan. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Elizabeth Pride, Henry F. Drake, M. Donovan Swan, and Isabella C. Swan; three great-grandchildren Leonora, Frey, and Rowan Dishman; her older brother, Robert N. Pemberton; and three nephews: Robert N. Pemberton Jr., John Pemberton, and Brian Pemberton; and her sister-in-law: Susan L. Swan.



Judy graduated from the Leander R. Peck School in Barrington, RI, attended Wheaton College, and graduated from URI with a BA and an MS in library science. She served as school librarian and student advisor at Lincoln School in Providence for twenty years. She was a member of the vestry at St. Andrew's by the Sea, Little Compton, and served a term as warden of the church. She was a board member and president of the Friends of the Westport Council on Aging, a board member of the Westport Art Group, and a member of the Handicraft Club. Judy and Henry spent many summers sailing and cruising in Buzzards Bay and beyond.



A memorial service was held at St. Andrew's by the Sea on November 12, at 11:00 AM.



Interment will be private.
