Marjorie Dennis Obituary

Marjorie C. (Raiola) Dennis, 95, of Bristol, passed away peacefully at her home with her family on Sunday, June 1, 2025. She was the loving and devoted wife of the Honorable Judge Anthony J. Dennis for 74 years before her passing.

Born in Warren but raised in Bristol, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Zoe (Bullock) Raiola.

Raised and educated in Bristol, she was a member of the Colt Memorial High School graduating class of 1947. Immediately following high school she enrolled at the Rhode Island Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1950.

As a Registered Nurse, the first five years of her professional life were spent as the factory nurse at the Bristol Manufacturing Co. During these years she was the main financial support for both a growing family and for her husband who was attending law school. When this burden was later lifted, she served as a part-time registered nurse at the Rhode Island Veterans Home in Bristol.

She was renowned as an excellent cook and in the hosting of dinner parties for her relatives and many friends. She loved the competition in card games, especially Bridge, and was proficient as teacher and player in the tile game "Mah Jongg". She had her favorites on the Red Sox and was satisfied only with a winning game. Where ever she resided, there seemed to be so many who loved and respected her authentic self. Her concerns were about others and rarely ever about herself. What she cherished most though were the private moments with her family who will suffer her loss the hardest.

In addition to her loving husband: Hon. Anthony J. Dennis; she is also survived by her children: William P. Dennis, Anthony J. Dennis, III (Denise), Paul F. Dennis, Patricia Staton (Charles); her grandchildren: Patrick W. Dennis, Katharine D. Lavallee (Corey), Elizabeth D. Lima (Michael), Lynn Monostory (Erik), Michael A. Dennis, Anthony J. Dennis, IV, Charles A. Staton, III, Dennis A. Staton (Shannon), Samuel O. Staton (Emily); 7 Great Grandchildren; her sister: Frances Banno; and many extended relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Frank and Zoe; and her siblings: Camille Cortellessa and Charles Raiola.

Visiting Hours are respectfully omitted. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, June 6, 2025 at 10 AM at St. Mary of the Bay Church, 645 Main Street, Warren. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name can be made to her beloved St. Mary of the Bay Church, 645 Main Street, Warren.
