Alex passed away peacefully at home, two days short of his 93rd birthday, surrounded by the love of his family and friends. He was a man of great heart, faith and compassion. He had a rich prayer life and a depth of spirit that was real. He enjoyed his family, friends, gardening, fixing things, dancing and playing the accordion. He was a pharmacist who worked in the East Bay for many years.
He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, companion and friend.
He is survived by his loving companion, Rita Aho, his sons Robert (Irma) and Rico (Dena) DeBenedetti, his daughter Diane (Luigi) Delucchi, and his grandchildren, Lauren (Conan) Delucchi Graham, Andrea (Chris) Delucchi Hand, Angelia DeBenedetti, Alyssa DeBenedetti and Dominic DeBenedetti, sister Louise Lehmkuhl and former wife and friend Jacqueline DeBenedetti. He is also survived by loved cousins in Italy. He was also blessed in life to be lovingly cared for by Maritza Villegran, Jeremiah Stevens, Raya Johnson and Samantha Dudley.
Alex was a WWII veteran, Sergeant First Class, 5th Air Force, US Army in the Asiatic Pacific. He was a graduate from UC Berkeley and UCSF School of Pharmacy. He was a member of the Madonna Della Guardia Society, the Ligure Club, the Vallejo Moose Club and the American Legion.
Vigil service will be held on Monday, April 27th at 6:30 pm at Oakmont Memorial in Lafayette.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 28th at 10 am at Christ the King Church. Burial will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Lafayette.
In lieu of flowers donations in Alex's memory may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Dining Room in Oakland or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
