Alice Bunn Obituary

June 29, 1923 - September 13, 2022Alice June Bunn passed away peacefully at home with family by her side. Alice was born in a small farmhouse in Brentwood to Alice (Morgan) Hanson and Henry Hanson. She was a proud fourth generation descendant of early pioneer Jeremiah Morgan of Morgan Territory. Growing up on a small farm in Brentwood, Alice witnessed a lot of change to our area. She attended Brentwood schools with the exception of her first year of schooling at Knightsen Elementary. In 1941, Alice graduated as salutatorian from Liberty Union High School. With great aspirations and dedication, Alice attended University of California Berkeley graduating with honors in 1945. She began her thirty-six year teaching career that same year at her beloved four room schoolhouse, Knightsen Elementary. Alice married the love of her life, Bill on her birthday in 1947 at St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Brentwood. They had two sons, Michael and William (deceased).Alice was an active member in numerous organizations. A seventy-five year member of the Native Daughters of the Golden West, California Teachers Association, Cal Alumni, Friends of the Library, East County Historical Society, and California Farm Bureau. After retirement and the passing of her spouse, Alice did a great deal of traveling. Beginning with the western national parks, touring through Canada and the United States. Then abroad to Europe spending time in Germany, Austria, and surrounding countries. It was an unforgettable trip. Her greatest accomplishment was the reciprocated love she had for her family, friends, and multitude of students. Alice was and always will be a highly respected and cherished East County educator. She was an avid reader, had a wonderful sense of humor, and loved to laugh. She has enriched the lives of generations. Recently, Alice celebrated her 99th birthday and received hundreds of cards from her community, friends, and former students. She was amazed at the outpouring of love. She was preceded in death by her son William, spouse Bill, parents Allice and Henry Hanson. Siblings Henry "Hiney" Hanson, Eileen deFremery, Berniece Helmick, Helen Cakebread, Robert "Bob" Hanson, and Frances "Frannie" Domingo. Also numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bunn was the very best of teachers. To this day I will say "Mrs. Bunn was my favorite teacher!". Her kindness and devotion to her students always impressed me. She was my fourth grade teacher at Knightson so many years ago. I believe it was 1957 or 1958. I was blessed to know her.

June was such a lovely lady and i will miss her dearly. I was her hairdresser for 5 years. I loved every time she was in my chair. I will miss our talks and from her i learned so much about the history of Bryon and Brentwood. I was blessed to be apart of her life and her family

She was a great lady, and a wonderful person. We will miss her so much; her sense of humor, her positive personality, her thoughtfulness and selflessness. She will always be our special Grandma June. We will miss her very very much.
