Benjamin Chow Obituary

BENJAMIN CHOW Born April 7, 1916, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 28 at Peninsula Hospital in Burlingame. He was 91. A long-time resident of Foster City, he was the steady companion of Winnie Lee of San Mateo, brother of Dorothy S. Lee of Pasadena, and much-beloved uncle of Melinda Hsia of South Pasadena, Preston of Rancho Palos Verdes, Sandra Tom Beathcroft of New Zealand, Adam Asarnow of New York City, Seth Asarnow of Corte Madera, and Lori Atone of Rancho Palos Verdes. Ben was born in San Francisco and grew up in San Jose. He attended the University of California, Berkeley where he graduated with honors in electrical engineering in 1938. He helped to develop the radar during World War II and afterwards worked on government projects to detect radiation. Ben was a founding member and remained an active member of the Community Baptist Church in San Mateo and served as an officer with the Chinese Asian Seniors Club of San Mateo. A celebration of his life will be held Wednesday, December 5 at 6:30 p.m. at the Community Baptist Church, 15 South Humboldt Street in San Mateo. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Ben Chow's memory to be sent to the Community Baptist Church or a favorite charity.
