Bernice Whitfield Obituary

Bernice Markey Whitfield Sept. 27, 1920 ~ Nov. 11, 2008 Resident of Rossmoor Bernice M. Whitfield was born in Modesto, CA on Sept. 27, 1920 and was born to eternal life in Walnut Creek on Nov. 11, 2008. She is survived by her two loving children Doug and Patty, five grandchildren Ben, Michael, John, Tricia and Jenah, as well as her first great-grandchild, Madrid Alexa. She is now reunited with her late husband, William T. Whitfield, whom she was married to from 1977 until his death in 2004. Mrs. Whitfield was a refined lady who urged those she loved to be the best, most civilized persons possible. She was a fan of the "Arts", sang beautifully in her soprano voice and was a proficient "black belt" shopper. An avid learner, Bernice was a proud alum of UC Berkeley, attaining a bachelor degree in Psychology in 1942. She was a devout Roman Catholic, volunteered for Hospice and was active in the Burlingame and Rossmoor communities. Bernice was a remarkably strong and gifted woman with a contagious, positive outlook on life. We will miss her dearly. Visitation from 6 to 8PM with a Vigil service at 7PM on Tuesday Nov. 18th at Hull's Walnut Creek Chapel 1139 Saranap Ave. in Walnut Creek. Funeral Mass, 10:30AM Wed. Nov. 19th at St. Anne Catholic Church 1600 Rossmoor Pkwy. in Walnut Creek. Hull's Walnut Creek Chapel (925) 934-5400

I have great memories of Bernice when we were members of the Burlingame Guild of the Peninsula Symphony. She was a wonderful hostess at her home on Elm St. in San Mateo and at the Magnolia of Millbrae. My most sincere sympathies to her family.
