It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Beverly Bellows. A generous and kind-hearted woman, Beverly led an adventurous life, committed to the musical arts and a fair, sustainable world for all. A professional harpist for over 3 decades, Beverly played for both the San Francisco and Oakland Symphonies before venturing out freelance. As such she was hired to play for many celebrity's shows in Vegas and Reno including Glen Campbell, Debbie Reynolds, The Carpenters and Sonny & Cher. In fact, it was after being unfairly snubbed pay for the Sonny & Cher show when they split- despite her contract-- that motivated her to go into law after wining her case. After graduating from Hastings College of Law, Beverly went on to join the legal teams of many Silicon Valley firms including HP, Trend Micro, Hitachi, Intuit and others. During this time Beverly also became interested in architecture, specifically 'green' building, and devoted herself to leading a lifestyle focused on sustainability. Long before this Beverly had become a vegan and now she put all her efforts into green energy, composting, and recycling with an unbridled enthusiasm for reaching a zero carbon footprint. Her philanthropic spirit resulted in supporting dozens of non-profit organizations.
Beverly continued playing harp throughout her lifetime including performances with the San Jose Musical Theater for shows such as Phantom of the Opera, Sweeny Todd, and Evita. She was active in her community, serving on the Board of Directors for the San Jose Symphony and most recently with the Rio Vista Museum.
Beverly was loved and admired by friends, fellow musicians and colleagues, and family; and she will be deeply missed. She is survived by her 3 nieces, Jerri-Lynn, Pamela and Susan, and by her nephew, Justin; and by 2 grand-nieces and 5 grand-nephews. A memorial concert lead by fellow harpist Dan Levitan will be held at the Rio Vista Museum on Saturday, April 30th starting at 7:30pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in Beverly's honor to The Michael J. Fox Foundation; PBS/KQED; or your local symphony.
