Brett Wilk Obituary

Brett Randall Wilk
March 3, 1965 - August 31, 2017
Resident of Concord
Brett Randall Wilk was born in Nairobi, Kenya.Brett loved life - especially the outdoors. He was happiest and at peace in the beauty and serenity of the mountains of Northern Calif. And his greatest personal joy was his son Micah Irving Wilk, with whom he spent many hours of love and devotion. Brett was very musical, with an exceptional baritone voice. He sang in the California State Honor Choir, and the choirs at DVC, Temple Isaiah, and Congregation B'nai Tikvah as well as the Oakland Opera. Brett was a talented chef, who enjoyed cooking and teaching his son skills in the kitchen. Of his many working endeavors, he took greatest pride as a fine dining connoisseur and waiter. Brett had a great interest in the Bible, both the old and new testaments and enjoyed discoursing parsha in Bible Study Groups. Brett enjoyed attending Chabad services in Berkeley, Congregation B'nai Tikvah, and had been on the pastoral team at Second Baptist Church in Martinez. Brett loved and was deeply loved. He is survived by parents Nessa & Bob Wilk, son Micah Wilk, brother Kevin Wilk, partner and significant other Jennifer Sanchez-Salazar and former wife Karen Wilk.
Services were held at Gan Shalom Cemetery in Martinez.

Brett, it's hard to believe that it has been 5 years since your passing. God's plan is for everlasting life, and we are all waiting for the rapture. I so know that you were a believer in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Brett was a very interesting man. He loved God and wanted to teach His word, especially to Jews. He loved his son Micah and loved to share stories of Micah's baseball games and music. Moreover, he was a man who wanted to grow. I was honored to just share the brief time that we had. I learned much. May God keep him now. May God bless Micah and the Wilk family.

My dear brother Brett, how many layers have just been stripped from my life by your leaving. No one will ever understand the bond we had, the emotional roller coasters we rode out with life issues. Our Messiah, King of the Universe, put us together as brother and sister. Until I see you in heaven, I will miss you tons. Your forever sister, Cindy

So sorry to hear of your loss Micah, what a tremendous shock for you and your family. Your Father always spoke highly of you, was particularly proud of your sporting achievements. He spoke to us about your fast arm, your strength in baseball pitching :)

After not seeing Brett for 25 years we enjoyed a good catch up with him just recently while holidaying in California. We were able to meet you Micah, your Dad was so happy to be able to introduce you to our family. We could tell he loved you very much. He is very proud of you.
Just last week I was chatting with Brett on line, he was telling me a little about his recent trip to Israel, of the new contacts he had made. I asked him if he would like to return in the future. He said he would but not until you were older Micah. His first priority was to be there for you in order to support and see you through your education.

Brett was a kind soul, someone who enjoyed people, he was an encourager. He loved to talk about his faith in Christ & his Jewish roots. He was very grateful for the blessing of knowing his Saviour and shared with us on more than one occasion his testimony regarding how Jesus came to him when he was at his lowest place; how Christ revealed Himself as Saviour, as God in a vision with a set of balanced scales. On one side of the scales was the word God and in the other the word Jesus. As a young Jewish man, this was quite a revelation to take in however he understood and received the truth and was born again :)
So while Brett is now absent from his body and the earth. He is present eternally with his Saviour Jesus Christ. Hold onto this truth Micah. In Christ we live forever, you will one day be reunited with your dear father.

Much love to you and best wishes from our family in New Zealand. If you are ever here in our nation you are welcome to visit. God bless.

Brett, Micah and us (Nisbet Family) from New Zealand - Jan 2017 RIP Brett

We got to see Brett earlier this year in Concord when we came to the USA for a holiday - Our last memories are praying with Brett and Micah in the Concord mall car park as we said our goodbyes. How is it possible that you're no longer with us? We only ever hoped for the best for you, and are hopeful now that you are at peace. We loved you and will make sure that Micah continues to receive that love. He will make you proud, and we will always make sure that he will remember you as his loving father. Rest In Peace my brother.
