Carl Hillstead Obituary

Carl Edward Hillstead
May. 16, 1945 - Aug. 22, 2015
Resident of Lincoln, CA
Carl Edward Hillstead was born on May 16, 1945 in Bremerton, WA. His family soon returned to Williston, ND, where they had originally settled after emigrating from Norway. His family then moved to San Mateo, CA when Carl was eight years old. Carl worked for the Cummins, Watson, and Meehan Engine Company and soon became a master diesel mechanic. Carl eventually ventured out to form his own business, Bay Counties Diesel Service, located in Fremont, CA. He successfully owned and operated his business for thirty years until 2007. During this time, Carl and his wife Lorry lived in Fremont, then Pleasanton, and finally settled in the Sun City Community in Lincoln, CA to be near his sister and brother-in-law.
Carl was known to play almost as hard as he worked -- enjoying golf, boating, and trips in his motorhome. Carl's most enjoyable recreational times were spent riding one of his many Harleys. He and his friends, Danny Danforth and Jerry Porter, took numerous motorcycle trips, including Sturgis, SD, Laughlin, CA, Reno, NV, and Mexico. Some of Carl's most cherished memories included moments he shared with his children, such as coaching his sons' Little League baseball teams and walking his daughter down the aisle.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years Lorry Hillstead, his two sons Edward and Richard Hillstead, daughter Rochelle Vaughn, as well as his grandchildren Karly Grace Vaughn, Audrey Vaughn, and Harrison Martin Hillstead. He is also survived by his beloved sisters, Sandra Garcia and Patty Hillstead.

Carl died on August 22, 2015 in Lincoln Hills, CA at the age of 70. Funeral services will be held at the Chapel of the Valley in Roseville, CA on August 29, 2015 at 1:30 pm.

I am sorry to hear about Carl. He was a great guy. We still get people asking about him, and how he was doing. He touched so many lives. I feel honored to be able to carry on his legacy. He built Bay Counties Diesel, and we are trying to make him proud every day. We will miss him.
