Christopher Butler Obituary

Christopher Eugene Butler Oct. 9, 1957 - Apr. 15, 2009 Resident of Martinez Chris Butler passed away suddenly at his home in Martinez at the age of 51. Although he was born in N. Hollywood, CA he grew up in El Sobrante and graduated from De Anza High School in 1975. He was a "gentle giant" who loved animals, especially birds. Upon his retirement from Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory after 22 years of service, he became a volunteer at Feathered Follies in Concord helping to train and care for many birds, but was especially fond of Hyacinth Macaws. Chris was the devoted husband of Kathy Evans-Butler, treasured son of Jerry & Donna Dillon Butler, beloved brother of Colleen Butler of Santa Rosa and Laura Butler Marks of Mill Valley and their husbands, Richard Re and Stephen Marks. He adored his 3 nieces Amanda, Mary & Anne, his nephew Kevin Marks and his grandmother, Marie Mims of Menden, NV. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service at Concord United Methodist Church, 1645 West St., Concord on April 24th at 10:00 am.

Dear Kathy:

I was shocked to hear about the passing of Chris. Chris was a wonderful man and the best friend anyone could have. I know that he went straight to Heaven.

Chris' work with animals (birds) finally came true. I always told him he should have been a veterinarian. He had such a special gift when it came to animals.

If there is anything I can do, you know how to reach me.

With Warm Regards.

Dear Kathy:

So very sad to hear about Chris. We worked together at the Lab for many years, always kind and caring. I would see him often at Safeway, where we would talk and try to catch up on things.
Please accept my deepest sympathy.

Kathy,
All though I have never met Chris in person, I have talked with him numerous times on the phone and we had some lovely, lively conversations. He was quick witted and was devoted to his birds. That's where I see him now, surrounded by his birds.

Chris was also devoted to you, Kathy, and loved you dearly. I'm sorry you two had such a short time together.

Anytime you need to vent, shout, scream, or need a shoulder to cry on just call.

Know that we love you and are in our prayers.
