Dawn Yates Obituary

Born in Sacramento, attended San Jose State were she met and married Samuel Yates. She graduated class of 1955 as a member of Alpha Phi sorority and Arts Honor Society. During the next 5 years she traveled as the wife of a military officer while welcoming 4 daughters. Dawn Marie was a passionate volunteer and her affiliations included Alpha Phi, PTA in San Jose, Reno, Garden City NY and Walnut Creek. Also Camp Fire Girls, Hospital Auxiliary's, Jobe's Daughters, and Jr. League. She was the past president of Alpha Phi's Berkley chapter house, East Bay Pan Hellenic, Art League of the East Bay and the California Symphony Alliance. Dawn Marie became a travel agent and visited a great deal of the world. Her volunteer spirit lead her to join the Ruth Bancroft Garden first booster organization. She was a member of the Scrappy Quilters staying active thru her 90th birthday and beyond. Dawn Marie was always cheerful, outgoing and gracious . She made everyone feel welcome in her presence. We are grateful to have had her in our lives all these years. Dawn Marie followed Sam on the 2nd anniversary of his passing and leaves Anna Krain (Jason), Jo Johnson (Greg) Denise Yates, Belinda Yates and grandsons Cody Johnson (Mary Ella) and Mason Johnson (Linneah). A celebration of life will be held Sunday, April 7, 2024 at 5:00 PM, Ruth Bancroft Garden, Walnut Creek, CA. Condolences at www.oakparkhillschapel.com
