Dean Chapman Obituary
May 8, 1925 - October 15, 2017
Resident of Concord
Dean passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 15, 2017 surrounded by family at the age of 92. Dean had a quick wit, vivid imagination and was devoted to his family. He was born in Oakland and served in the WWII army corps of engineers. After the war, he graduated from UC Berkeley with a business degree. As a nurseryman and wholesale rose salesman, he was well thought of and respected for his integrity in addition to the personal touch he brought to his customers. Dean was also a published author. His unique life experiences and insights have been shared with many through his books of short stories. A true romantic, Dean loved his wife Elsie with all his heart and soul! Together they adopted 7 children after the birth of 5 children. Enriching and enjoying the lives of 12 children, 16 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren was his full time labor of love. Large parties with family and friends were some of his favorite events. After retirement Dean and Elsie traveled together visiting Hawaii and our national parks. He is survived by his wife Elsie, his children Linda, Gail, Steve, Mark, Kim, Chris, Soni, Julie, Daniel, Matthew and Shari. Dean is preceded in death by his father Frederick, mother Gertrude, sister Lory and son Robert. Services will be held on Monday, October 23 at 11:00 at Ouimet Bros. 4125 Clayton Road, Concord.
