Dean Montevago Obituary

Dean Cido Montevago
June 8, 1952 - January 28, 2019
Residence of Castro Valley
Dean Cido Montevago peacefully passed away with his loving wife of 25 years, Jodi Montevago, by his side on January 28, 2019 at their home in Castro Valley after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Castro Valley on June 8, 1952 to Isadore "Cido" Montevago and Antoinette Montevago. Dean graduated from Hayward High School in 1970 and attended Chabot College and California State University, Hayward.
Dean was a dedicated public servant having served in the United States Air and National Guard as well as the Hayward Fire Department where he retired in 2007 after 29 years of service. While at the Hayward Fire Department Dean received the esteemed Firefighter of the Year Award, organized the annual Charity Golf Tournament for many years and participated in the California Firefighter Olympics. After retirement Dean was actively involved in serving on his Homeowners Association Board of Directors, where he facilitated many community upgrades such as landscaping beautification, a new sports court and pool modernizations with pride.
Dean notably coached championship football teams at Hayward High School, boys and girls basketball for the Catholic Youth Organization, and baseball for San Ramon Little League. Dean was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed supporting the San Francisco Giants, Golden State Warriors, San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders. He loved spending time at home in the garden with his wife, attending his grandson's team sports, playing golf and enjoying outdoor adventures with his wife in their travel trailer. Most of all he loved his family and the time he spent with them. Genuine to the core, Dean will forever be in the hearts of his family and friends and his spirit will live forever.
He leaves behind his Wife, Jodi Montevago; Daughter, Kelly Montevago and Son-in-law Roger Ledford of Chicago; Daughter Jillian Schultz and Grandson Drew Schultz of San Ramon; Mother Antoinette Montevago of Castro Valley; Brother Steve Montevago and Sister-in-law Marsha Montevago of Danville; Brother Glen Montevago of Castro Valley; Father-in-law and Mother-in-law Jake and Musa Francisco, Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law Nick and Paula Francisco; Sister-in-law Vicki Francisco of Castro Valley. Dean is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his Father Isadore "Cido" Montevago and Mother-in-law Patricia Francisco. The celebration of Dean's life will be held in a private service. The family has designated the Hayward Firefighters Charitable Fund for remembrance offerings. www.haywardfirefighters.org

Dean: you will definitely be missed! Dean was a Teacher and a mentor for many HFD recruits! He always encouraged me to take classes to improve my knowledge of the Fire Prevention office and he was always there for you when you needed him! The city of Hayward benefited tremendously by his service! My condolences to Jody, Kelly, Steve, and the entire Montevago family! Dean May you RIP!

Dean, when I reminisce about the wonderful times playing in the back yard with our brothers enjoying the game of baserunner or learning to box, and playing at the Laurel School field either pick-up basketball, sandlot baseball or football, as well as during the warm summer evenings playing the game of chase throughout the neighborhood; I thank you for being a part of my childhood.

Dean, you will be missed. I remember being backyard neighbors when we lived on Jones Street in Castro Valley. Good memories. Thank you for being one of our first responders. God Bless You.
