Donald Hirzel Obituary

Donald Hirzel
Nov. 7, 1938 - Oct. 1, 2012
Resident of Livermore
Donald Hirzel, 73, a long-time Livermore resident, passed away unexpectedly on October 1, 2012.
Don was born in San Francisco to George and Doris Hirzel. He served three years in the U.S. Navy as a machinery repairman. He worked at the LLNL from 1964 until retirement in 1998.
Everything Don did was motivated out of his faithfulness to Jesus Christ and his devotion to helping others. He helped build homes for Habitat for Humanity, raised dogs for Guide Dogs for the Blind, volunteered in Veteran's Hospital visitations, Prison Ministries, Shepherds Gate, and Valley Crisis Pregnancy Center.
Don is survived by wife of 48 years, Diana; son Douglas Hirzel and wife Jennifer; daughter Debbie Jackson and husband Duane; four grandchildren; sister Carolyn Parker and husband Don; and cousin Marilyn Bodourian. Although Don has left us, his generosity, gentleness, and thoughtfulness will never be forgotten. His family looks forward to being reunited with Don one day.
A celebration of Don's life will be at a memorial service Nov. 17 at Cedar Grove Community Church in Livermore. Donations in memory of Don to Guide Dogs for the Blind, Inc., or Cedar Grove Community Church, would be much appreciated.
