Edward Eggling Obituary

Edward L. Eggling, Sr. Feb. 2, 1922 ~ July 7, 2010 Former Resident of Berkeley Ed was born in Houston, TX. At 18, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps for 4-years where he was based out of Mare Island. He met the love of his life, Theodora "Teddy" Hall, on a blind date at Berkeley Ice Skating Rink in 1943. They were married for 53 years before Teddy died in 1996. Following his discharge, he worked for the Oakland Police Dept., Richmond Pacific Railroad, Berkeley Farms Dairy, Hink's, White Front and Capwell's. He was an avid volunteer for the Cub and Girl Scouts of America. One of Ed's greatest pleasures was driving, and after his retirement, he and Teddy went on many drives to their favorite destinations where their children and families lived. Ed is survived by his eight children Edward Jr. (Sue); Susan (Gerald) Matkin; Gregory (Nancy); Karen (Joel) Turtle; Linda (Ernie) Fosse; Brian (Cynthia); Adrienne (Thomas) Pearse; and Matthew, along with 22 grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren. In loving memory of a life well lived, his family will hold a private celebration of his life at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to an adult dementia day-care program Ed dearly loved, "S.T.A.R.S.," Vallejo Adult School, Attn.: Perri Tanner, 1140 Capitol Street, Vallejo, CA 94590-6399.

I will forever remember wearing your giant white t-shirts and watching cartoons...Your laugh and sense of humor...the laughing box...Disneyland...your stories...the random but well-loved and appreciated birthday gifts...the science museum...taking BART...the raspberry bushes in Berkeley...hearing you say, "I love you too"...I love you, Grandpa.
