Gilbert Orta

GILBERT ORTA Also known as "Al," entered into rest on March 11, 2005, in Newark at the age of 66. Born in Hayward, Calif., and a Washington High School graduate, Gil was a lifelong Tri-City resident. After four years in the Navy and a 35-year career with ACWD, Gil enjoyed an early retirement. Gil was an avid 49ers fan, loved music, the outdoors, frequent trips to Reno and spending time with his friends, family and dog Bandit. Gil was preceded in death by parents, Esteban Orta and Petra Gutierrez Orta of Mexico; sisters, Hope Topete of Newark, Christina Vega of Concord, Esther Lopez of Densmore and Beatrice Rodrigues of Hayward; brothers, Raymond and Lawrence Orta of Newark. Gil is survived by sons, Andrew S. Orta and Gilbert M. Orta, and daughter, Theresa A. Orta of Fremont; three grandchildren, Shelby C. Orta of Morgan Hill, Gabriel J. Orta and Deanna T. Orta of Fremont; sister Anne Ledesma of Newark; brother Arthur Orta of Tracy; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, March 15, from 5 to 8 p.m., with Rosary beginning at 7 p.m., at Chapel of the Roses, 1940 Peralta Blvd. in Fremont. Mass will be held on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Spirit Church, 37588 Fremont Blvd. in Fremont, with burial to follow at Holy Sepulchre in Hayward.
