Conrado Orta

Conrado Orta Sr., age 94, of Rockaway Twp, New Jersey, died on Monday, October 27, 2025 at St. Clares Hospital in Denville, New Jersey.
Conrado was born in Havana, Cuba to the late Juan and Pastora Orta, the third of seven children, and was raised primarily in Havana and the countryside. In 1969 Conrado and his family made the decision to move to Madrid, Spain where they called home for four years. In 1973 Conrado fulfilled his dream of moving his family to the United States of America. He called Yonkers, New York his home for over forty years.
Conrado had a passion for automobiles and quickly became a master auto mechanic in his youth. His knowledge and passion led him to have a fruitful career in the US, working at Yonkers Volvo Dealer before retiring from Beck Chevrolet, his employer of 24 years.
He was a wonderful neighbor, always willing and happy to lend a hand, whether that be fixing cars or blowing snow in the winter months. He was a caring and attentive man who was the sole caretaker for his beloved wife for seven years. In 2021 Conrado moved to Rockaway, NJ to live with family. He happily brought along with him all his mechanic equipment and machines.
In addition to working on vehicles, Conrado enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening in the warmer months, and making memories on vacations with those he loved.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Graciela Orta.
He is survived by one son, Conrad Orta Jr. (Rosa) of Rockaway Twp, NJ; two grandchildren, Conrad Orta III (Melanie Sedia) and Veronica Baker (Timothy); and his Great grandchildren, Evangeline Grace, Sabrina Rose, and Wesley James, and Siblings Ricardo, Gladys, and Matilde.
Visitation will be held Thursday, October 30, 2025 from 9:00-10:45 AM at the Whitham-Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave., Rockaway, NJ 07866. A Funeral Mass will be held immediately following visitation at 11:00 AM at St. Cecilia Church in Rockaway.
