Hylke van de Wetering Obituary

Hylke van de Wetering June 20, 1936 – June 24, 2011 Professor Hylke (Ike) van de Wetering, 75, of Ames passed away June 24, 2011 in Miami Beach, Florida. Visitation will be 4:30 – 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 1 at Adams Funeral Home with family present from 6:30 - 8:30. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 2 also at Adams. Burial will follow in the Ames Municipal Cemetery. Hylke was born June 20, 1936 in Hemelum, Nederland to Gerrit and Dieuwke van de Wetering. Hylke received a bachelor’s degree at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and a Ph.D. in economics at Iowa State University. After completion of his doctoral studies, he joined the faculty of Department of Economics at Iowa State University. At that time, he was the youngest person to become appointed a faculty member at Iowa State. Throughout his tenure, his work has touched many students here and abroad. Hylke enjoyed going for long drives in the country, reading and spending time with family. He is survived by his loving wife, Gloria; children, Gerrit, Chris, and Marco; daughters-in-law, Lori and Alisha; and three grandchildren, Alex, Emma, and Allison. He is also survived by a brother, Halbe van de Wetering and a sister, Anne van de Wetering; a cousin, Atze Lootsma and several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by both parents.
