Irene passed away peacefully in the presence of her daughters on October 18, 2014. She was born in New York City to Jack and Margaret Geraghty, originally from County Mayo and County Cork, Ireland. She met her husband-to-be Clifford Wingfield during World War II, and they were married on February 10, 1946.
Irene and Cliff moved to Merced, California, where their daughters, Diane and Maureen, were born. They moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in the early 1950's, where their daughter, Gayle, was born. Irene was a devoted wife, a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and a friend to many.
Irene is survived by her daughters Diane Savage (Annette), Maureen Klausner (Karl), Gayle Petri, grandchildren Dan Savage, Meredith Westlund (Jon), Neil, Stephanie and Joel Petri, great granddaughters Ellie and Laney Westlund, and her sister Peggy Finegan. She was predeceased by her husband Cliff and her grandson Colin Klausner.
A private family service will be held on October 28, 2014 at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward. Donations in her honor can be made to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org ) or Hope Hospice in Dublin CA (www.HopeHospice.com )
