James Coleman Obituary

James Volney Coleman III March 27, 1947 - July 8, 2006 Resident of At 59 Jimmie died tragically while doing what he loved most which was riding the coastal California roads on his motorcycle. He is survived by his son, Brett Coleman and daughter-in-law, Bobbie Jo Coleman; daughter, Cali Kent and son-in-law, Klinie Kent; life partner of over 35 years, Eileen Coleman; mother, Joyce Coleman; sister and brother-in-law, Johany and Al Hagaman; sister and brother-in-law, Kim and Freddie Burns; three nieces, Brooke, Elizabeth and Sarah; two nephews, Aaron and Matthew; five grandchildren, Megan, Braden, Kody, Carson and Cassidy; countless loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Jimmie loved life and his interests were many and varied. He was a doctor of chiropractic in business with the Fourzon Chiropractic group in Santa Rosa, but only after spending 21 years as a chemical engineer with Dow Chemical. He had a passion for fitness, competing as a body builder earlier in life and continuing to exercise regularly throughout his life. He enjoyed horse races, baseball games, cars and even built a car from only parts in 1979 with his then 8-year-old son, traveling, and new discoveries/topics. He was always searching for the next great adventure. He would take subjects mentioned to him or discovered by him and research them, and experience them if possible, until he was an expert. He involved himself in so many areas, but it seemed that his greatest passion was being on the open road, traveling on his motorcycle and being outdoors. Dr. Coleman attended Jeffersonville High School in Indiana where he grew up, Purdue University where he completed his master's degree in chemical engineering, and Life West where he received his doctorate in chiropractic. He also served in the United States Army in the chemical and then ordinance corps. A memorial gathering will take place at Odd Fellows Hall located at 545 Pacific Avenue in Santa Rosa on Sunday, July 16, 2006 from 2-5 p.m. with a service at 2:30 p.m., and all who knew him are welcome to attend and celebrate the life of a man known as Dad, Grandpa, Son, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, Nephew, Doctor, Colleague, Friend. He will be greatly missed. Arrangements by Santa Rosa Mortuary Eggen & Lance Chapel, (707) 542-3154. Donations in his memory can be made to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation at pbtfus.org/donations/ as connected to the motorcycle ride commencing in his honor.

I also worked closely with Jim for many years at Dow Chemical. Jim never had a cross word and was of the easiest going people I have ever known. From the Internet I knew Jim was working in Santa Rosa. I retired 3 weeks ago and thought I would look Jim up since I now had time.

I started at Dow Chemical the same year as Jim and worked on several projects with him. I remember the car that he made and remembered the surprise when he left to become a chiropracter. I don't think I ever heard him say anything bad about anyone and no one ever said anything bad about him. It was enjoyable to work with him.

A Friend

Jim was a man of great integrity - that old-fashioned, rock-solid kind of honesty and integrity that is gettting hard to find in this world. He was a wonderful friend - interesting, funny, loyal, supportive.

I will forever hold a special place in my heart for him and his family.

I am so sorry for your loss. Words cannot express to you how much that I valued Jim in my life. I do not have family, I am a single mom, and there are few people in this world that have made an impression on me - Jim was one of my most favorite. He always had something nice to say. Being in his presence was warmth. He made me feel comfortable, accepted, appreciated and lighthearted. Through some very difficult times for me. I can still see him, sitting in his desk, I would fix his hair when it was sticking up... he was so funny, how he would put his head in his hands to think, then look up with his hair sticking up. What a wonderful man, and you could always tell that his family was the first thing on his mind.

I feel selfish, because I am so upset at my loss - I want him to walk back in the door, so that I can be around him some more!

All of my love, Heidi Rader
