James Francis Healy
March 10, 1930 - August 19, 2016
Resident of Danville
Our Much Beloved Dad
James Healy, age 86, went to be with the Lord on August 19, 2016. He passed away early Friday morning. He was an extraordinary man of great integrity, humility, humor, generosity, kindness and enjoyed an extreme appetite.
Jim, as he was known, was born in Bridgeport, CT to Clinton and Laura Healy. After graduating from Amityville High School, he entered the Army. From an early age, he had dreams of West Point. Jim, being who he was, made that dream come true. He received both an Army and Senatorial appointment to West Point. After West Point, he spent four years as a pilot in the Air Force, as an Aircraft Commander at age 28 and was stationed at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, CA. He fell in love with the climate, golf and Mexican food. After Travis, he entered Stanford University, where he earned his MBA. He put that to use both at Chevron and Morgan Stanley.
Jim met Dorothy, the love of his life, in Palo Alto. They married in 1967, enjoying 49 years of love and friendship. He was a loving, caring father of three children. He doted on his grandkids, and liked nothing more than to sit, watch them and laugh. He loved to play school, restaurant and baseball with them. His hobbies included reading, vintage cars, history, airplanes and eating. He was a member of the local American Legion, the Stanford Half Century Club, a former member of the Commonwealth Club of San Francisco, the West Point Society of San Francisco, the Stanford Alumnus Association and the Stanford Business School Association.
Most of all, Jim will be remembered for his sharp humor, tremendous intellect, empathy, his ability to connect with people, the way he led his family not by words, but by example and his trencherman tendencies. Jim is survived by his wife, Dorothy, his three children, Bill, Laura (Bailey) and Ryan, son in law Scott Bailey, daughter in law Renee and grandchildren Mia and Connor. Our family is forever grateful for the time and love given by Bong Gutierrez and Jame Wong.
The burial will be private at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon. A memorial service will be held for Jim at Community Presbyterian Church in Danville on Sunday, August 28 at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to Hospice of the East Bay at 3470 Buskirk Avenue, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523.
