Jeanne Abramson Obituary

Jeanne Marie Abramson February 22, 1929 - August 16, 2009 Resident of Hillsborough Jeanne passed away peacefully from cardiac arrest at her second home in Koloa, Kauai with her husband Albert at her side. As wished, she was cremated and her ashes placed in the ocean waters opposite her residence, joining those of her parents Bob and Dorothy Marsh. From the lanai she loved to watch the whales and dolphins pass by and the local turtles ride the waves. It was like Honu Lani (turtle heaven), she used to say. She would also enjoy the daily visits of her bird friends, the Chinese and Bard doves, Java sparrows, cardinals, mynahs and others, who came for the seed she spread on the lawn and in a bowl on the patio. Jeanne was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan and came to San Francisco in 1943. She graduated from George Washington High School in 1947 and then attended City College of San Francisco, where she met her future husband Albert. They married on September 1, 1949. Her passing was two weeks short of their 60th anniversary. She learned to fly airplanes in 1966 and was a member of the "99s", a woman pilots group founded by Amelia Earhart, and flew in a Powder Puff Derby. Jeanne raised Borzoi dogs and was a member of the Borzoi Club of Northern California and the Skyline Dog Fanciers. She was an active member of the American Women's Voluntary Services, the El Camino Home Organization, the Alumna groups of the Theta Tau Sorority and the George Washington High School Class of 1947. She is predeceased by her daughter Christine, and survived by her husband Albert R. Abramson of Hillsborough; son Eric (Julia) Abramson of Mill Valley; and five grandchildren: Rebecah Palmer of Portland, Oregon; Adam Palmer, Saratoga, California; Sadie Rix, Willits, California; Brett and Mitch Abramson, Mill Valley, California. A Celebration of Life and Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2009 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the Kohl Mansion, 2750 Adeline Drive, Burlingame, California.
