Jeanne Walker Obituary

In Loving Memory of Jeanne Neubauer Walker June 5, 1937 - June 21, 2023 Jeanne Ellen Walker, a vibrant and cherished member of the Walnut Creek community, passed away surrounded by friends and family on June 21, 2023. Jeanne was born June 5, 1937 in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin to Harriet and Harold Neubauer. Growing up in Wisconsin and later Tucson, Arizona, Jeanne's outgoing personality shined through from an early age. She shared a deep bond with her parents and older brother John, who preceded her in death. Jeanne's zest for life and vibrant spirit was contagious. Jeanne pursued her education at the University of Arizona where she was a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority, and graduated in 1957. In 1959, she married the love of her life, Edwin C. Walker. Together, they raised two children, Wendee Walker (husband Michael Fisher) of Napa, and John Walker (wife Jennifer Walker) of San Francisco. Jeanne dedicated her professional life to public education, serving as an elementary school teacher in the Mount Diablo Unified School District. Known for her extensive classroom library, colorful attire, and positive energy, she created a joyful and engaging learning environment. After retiring in 2003, Jeanne traveled the world, and continued to make a difference in her community. She embraced new experiences while substitute teaching, and sharing her knowledge as a docent at the Oakland Museum. Jeanne's love for music and theater led her to volunteer as an usher at the San Francisco Opera, and a singer with the Singing Messengers. Jeanne was also dedicated to fundraising with the California Retired Teachers Association scholarship committee, leaving an indelible impact for other people pursuing a career in education. Jeanne will be remembered for her delicious kitchen creations, unwavering positivity, boisterous laughter, and ability to brighten any room. Her legacy of love, dedication, and zest for life, will forever inspire those who were fortunate to know her. In addition to her beloved husband Ed and their two children, Jeanne leaves behind cherished nephews, Tom and Kurt Neubauer, and niece Nancy Neubauer. Her legacy will continue to live on through her family, friends, and former students. A Celebration of Jeanne's Life will be held at 2:00 PM on August 6, 2023, Saint Matthew Lutheran Church, 399 Wiget Lane, Walnut Creek, CA 94598. Reception to follow.
