On Sunday morning August 1, 2021 John Stuart Soderling passed away at the age of 79 in his home in Walnut Creek, CA with his wife of 54 years, Bev, by his side.
John was born in Bonners Ferry, Idaho to Russell and Pearl Soderling enjoying life on their ranch with his two brothers Mark and Tom and his horse Prince. In 1965 John graduated from the University of Idaho in Civil Engineering and moved to Oakland, CA where he met his wife Bev and worked for the City of Oakland for 33 years. They moved to Walnut Creek in 1971 where they raised their daughters Kristi and Kim. He enjoyed playing tennis and skiing with family and friends. They attended Community Presbyterian Church in Danville where John was an usher among other volunteer positions. For many summers their family attended Mount Hermon camp in the Santa Cruz mountains, always a highlight of their year. Once their girls were in college, John and Bev took up golf and enjoyed many rounds and Sunday night dinners with their friends at Round Hill Country Club. John also enjoyed touring around in his 1957 red Austin Healy which was often on display at Hot Summer Nights in Danville or in front of the local Starbucks. John was an avid country singer and played his Dobro guitar in his band the Round Hillbillies. John is known for his kind and encouraging spirit and was his grandchildren's biggest fan at their musical theater and sports events.
John is preceded in death by his daughter Kristi Moore (Chad) and his parents. He is survived by his wife Bev Soderling; daughter Kim Erickson (Sean); brothers Mark Soderling (Brenda) and Tom Soderling (Karen); and grandchildren Katie Moore Dale (Jordan), Megan Moore, Lucas Moore, Hailey Erickson, Austin Erickson, and Matthew Moore.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John's memory to Mount Hermon Camps and Conference Center, PO Box 413, Mount Hermon, CA 95041. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, August 13, 2021 at 1:00 pm at the Community Presbyterian Church, 222 W. El Pintado, Danville, CA.
