Joseph Azevedo Obituary

Joseph Azevedo Jul. 8, 1924 Dec. 2, 2010 Former Resident of San Leandro Joseph passed away on Thursday of natural causes at the hospital of Fort Mojave, Arizona. Joseph was one of seven children and was born in Bakersfield, CA to the late Jose F. and Rose L. Azevedo. Joseph served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945. He was one of the survivors of the Battle of the Bulge and also participated in the liberation of two Jewish death camps. After the war he lived in Florida for a few years where he had a pig farm and a fishing boat business. When back in California Joseph was a carpenter, welder and for much of his 44 years of marriage to Josephine Azevedo who preceded Joseph in Death (December 2, 2007), he was an apartment complex manager. When Joseph and Josephine retired to Arizona, he became a baker for a few years. Joseph was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the American Legion. Joseph is survived by his daughters Joyce (Dennis) Burigsay, Jerrie (Walter) Schuetz, Jane (Robert) Lyall, two sisters Rosemarie Prado, WA., Margaret Staber, TX., grandchildren; Regina (Christian) Wiedel, J.D. (Ann) Burigsay, Sabrina Burigsay-Wilson (Myron), Christopher (Maureen) Lyall and Ryan Lyall. Great-grandchildren; Tre Burigsay, Mackenzie Wiedel, Weston Lyall and Mario Burigsay. He also is survived by several nieces and nephews. The Funeral Mass will be held on Monday December 13, 2010 at 11:00am at the Church of the Assumption, 1100 Fulton Street, San Leandro, California. A funeral procession will leave the church and procede to Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 26320 Mission Blvd., Hayward, CA. for interment.
