Keith Fernandes Obituary

Keith Ludlow Fernandes
July 17, 1961-Oct. 25, 2013
Resident of San Lorenzo
Keith passed away on October 25th surrounded by his family and friends after bravely facing a battle with cancer. He was a native of San Lorenzo and a graduate of Arroyo High School. He was an avid Harley-Davidson enthusiast and Raider fan. Keith's passion for motorcycles led him to the SLZ Mob and Old Coots on Scoots. Although he had no children of his own, GUK (Great Uncle Keith) as he was fondly named, thoroughly enjoyed his nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and loved having them around. Having all of his family in the area, Keith never missed a family gathering. Keith spent years as a truck driver until circumstances prevented him from working. At that point, he took care of his father for almost 7 years, until he passed earlier this year. Keith kept his sense of humor and kept us laughing until the end. His bravery was an inspiration to all of us. Keith was preceded in death by his parents Marilyn and Lud Fernandes, great niece Haley, and his beloved dog Howie. He is survived by sister Leslie Fernandes (Robin) of San Lorenzo, Gail Monge (Rick) of Livermore, Jeff Fernandes (Charlene) of Lafayette, 6 nieces/nephews and 7 great nieces/nephews and his faithful 4 legged companion Festus. The family would like to thank Keith's friends who stood by him through this difficult time. A celebration of Keith's life is being planned and the family will announce the date. Donations can be made to your favorite charity.

Tomorrow marks 11 years since your passing, doesn´t seem possible that much time has gone by. My reality is my youngest Grandson who was just a baby when you passed, he´s 12 now, he´s my reality check in how many years have gone by. You are missed daily Keith, I miss our chat across the street or hearing you ask what´s for dinner or announcing you are going for a putt putt on your Harley. The years don´t seem the same without you present. Love you. Les

Hard to believe tomorrow marks 10 years since your passing. Not a day goes by where you are not in my thoughts and always in my heart. Life just isn't the same without you.

Tomorrow is the sixth anniversary of your passing, it doesn't seem possible and yet here we are. So much has changed since you left us, the family home has been sold but the memories are still fresh in my mind of all that took place there. I still live across the street and it's so painful to see others living there, I keep thinking the garage door will open and Howie and Festus will come charging out (they have both crossed the rainbow bridge) and you'll yell from across the street "going for a putt putt" on your Harley, how I miss those words. Life certainly has been different without you, you are missed and loved deeply.

Yesterday 11/16 was your Celebration Of Life, it was held at The Englander in San Leandro, the place was packed. It was a wonderful celebration of you and your life Keith, family, friends and lots of love in the room. I wish that we had all come together to celebrate your winning the battle over cancer instead of a "memorial", you would have so enjoyed the day. Seeing all these wonderful people made me realize just how many people you touched in your short life. I miss you, am so proud of you and love you.

November 16, 2013

Keith, I know how pleased you were to see how many wonderful friends came today to celebrate you. What a tribute to who you were and the kind of friend you were too. I love you bro and miss you so much. Life Is harder without you.

I remember meeting Keith during my first trip from Portugal to California. He was certainly a passionate bike rider, and so is Leslie. It is heartbreaking to see all that Keith has dealt with throughout these last few years. He was definitely a fighter! He'll certainly be missed by family and friends. I wanted to wish all the best to the Fernandes family.

Another day has gone by and I still can't believe you are no longer among the land of the living. Your passing has been very hard Keith, much harder to come to terms with than Mommy and Daddy. I really thought you were going to beat the evil Big C, you managed to bounce back from everything else that was thrown at you and come out on top. Perhaps I just didn't want to face the reality of it all, denial is easy, reality sucks. I hope you are pain free, reunited with our parents and in their loving care once again. I miss you and am so proud of you. xo

A candle to represent the eternal flame of the soul- your soul - that now resides in the everlasting light. So much love for such an amazing spirit that will live on even without the vehicle (the body) it traveled to this plane with. The physical body is the only thing that ceases to exist. The rest simply moves on to another place where we are destined to meet our loved ones again. I hope you're one of the ones who will be there to greet me when I get there. ?

You were so brave Uncle Keith! I wish that when my time here on earth is over I will have the strength and courage like you did. Mom sent me pictures of the four of you together. You looked so good, it's was the first time I saw you without any hair. You even had a beard! I loved the look!!! I wished that I had the chance to say this to you. I'm so proud to call you my uncle and even proud to be your niece. I will always love you and you will be missed. May you rest in peace.... I love you!!!!

Keith I'm going to miss you my "bro". I am so very thankful to have had a brother- in -law who was always there for us. I shall cherish all the good times we've shared together and hopefully that is what can keep us going. I'm so sorry that you had to leave us so soon, but I know that up there in heaven you are welcomed with so many loving arms. I will keep you forever in my heart until we are together again. I love you. Love, Char (sis)

Its been a great ride brother. And it is an honor and a privelage ,to be allowed ,to be like a part of your family. You guys, my prayers and my family's prayers are with you. I miss our Social Director. More than you can imagine. He was so kind to my family ,and to everyone we know. Because of Keith I have new friends ,because Keith was so friendly he made friends everywhere he went .then brought these men to our meetings and i am so grateful to have spent some really great times riding and planning rides and just the energy that came out of him was infectious. Our last ride together was with Eric when we watched Sons of Anarchy at the hospital the night before he came home.we had a really good talk and for that I am truly a lucky man. If my sons grow up to be half the man he was i will have 2 good men.i shall pass through this world but once. Any good that i can do ,or any kindness i can show another human being let me do it now and not defer it , for i shall not pass this way again. I know he is in heaven. God bless you all.peace and love Dave T.

Keith, I keep hoping this is a bad dream; that I'll wake up and you'll still be here. You did not have enough time here on this earth but I know that you are no longer suffering. You were so brave but it was so hard watching you slip away. I know we will all be together again. I love you. Gail

Keith, I am at a loss for words sweetie (amazing, right). You said it best "the tables sure turned quickly". I sincerely hope Gail, Jeff, the rest of the family and I did you justice in your final days. I prayed daily that you would get more time to do all the things you wanted to do in your short life, Sturgis, ride the island of Kaua'i on your Harley and much, much more. You fought such a brave fight and not once did you question "why me". You had your family and friends laughing till the end and as I told you over and over again, I am so very proud of you. I love you Keith and I will miss you always. XO Les

Even as I write this, I still can't believe that you're gone. As I've spent the past few days or so reading the wonderful things people have written, it's no surprise that you touched so many lives. I'm a better person for having you in my life. And when I hear how strong you were, I know it was because you were so dignified! Nothing could prevent you from holding your head high! You were a true master at both and you will always be loved, and never forgotten! You fought a tough battle and you bowed out gracefully. What a true hero to so many! May you be at peace and without pain! Until we meet again! Much love, Chris
