LARRY LESLIE BRANCHAUD

Lifelong Resident of Alameda
Larry Leslie Branchaud died unexpectedly on Friday, December 12, 2014 in Alameda, California at the premature age of 73.
Larry is survived by his wife Kathleen, two children Jeff Branchaud (Michelle Ratto-Branchaud) of San Leandro and Michelle Branchaud Simi (Todd) of Moraga, his four grandchildren, Ryan & Jason Simi, and Kendall & Aaron Jeffrey (AJ) Branchaud. Other relatives include Richard Branchaud, Gary Branchaud, Butch Branchaud, Joann Wesleder (George) and brother-in-law Richard Davis (Judy) Larry was born in Alameda on March 15, 1941 to Harry and Fran Branchaud. He graduated from the great Encinal High School in 1959. At Encinal, Larry excelled at Football and Track & Field. Upon graduation Larry joined the Coast Guard. After serving, Larry went on to become an apprentice type-setter at Spartan Printing in San Francisco. Larry joined the Alameda Fire Department on November 1, 1968 and served until he retired on March 16, 1994, 26 years of service. As a firefighter, Larry was awarded the Archie Waterbury Community Service award in 1988. In 1975, Larry established, "For Safety Sake", teaching CPR & First Aid to the community. On June 14, 1990, Larry received a certificate of Recognition from the American Red Cross for utilizing life-saving skills to save a human life. One of his proudest moments occurred when he was inducted into the Encinal High School Civic Hall of Fame on May 22, 2010.
In retirement, Larry was always busy & had many interests. He had a passion for martial arts and earned a black belt on December 4, 1967 from Wally Jay & the American Jujitsu Institute. Larry was an avid swimmer and bike rider & member of the Harbor Bay Isle Athletic Club. Larry loved vegetable gardening year round and fed his loving neighbors the fruits of his labor. He loved the culinary arts and was addicted to watching the Food Network channel. He was a 2nd generation member of the Alameda Elks Lodge #1015 where he headed up many committees. Larry was a very generous person whose passion was serving & educating others about life-saving 1st Aid and CPR.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, Tuesday December 23, 2014 at 10 AM at St Philip Neri Catholic Church 3108 Van Buren St., Alameda. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Hayward Wednesday December 24, 2014
