Lydia GALLI

Lydia Marie Galli July 3, 1923 ~ Dec. 23, 2010 Resident of Stockton Lydia, 87, passed away after a yearlong battle with illness. Born to Palmiro and Lila Bounacorsi in Los Gatos, CA where she grew up. She is survived and will be greatly missed by her loving husband, Ivo Galli, married for 62 years; daughters Linda (Tom) Oneto-Galli and Christine (Louis) Ventimiglio; son Tony (Cheryl) Galli; grandmother of Eric Brown, Monica (Rick) Clarke, Nicholas and Paul Ventimiglio, Christine Farraris and Elizabeth Galli. She is the beloved great-grandmother of Logan and Gavin Clarke. Ivo and Lydia moved to Niles (Fremont), CA in the early 1960's from Oakland to raise their three children. Lydia was a stay at home mother until the late 60's, when she decided to go to work for Mervyn's Department Stores, part-time. This part-time job led to a long career working for Mr. Mervyn Morris, as the company's fabric buyer. She thoroughly excelled at this career, as one of her lifelong passions was sewing, knitting and crocheting. She made many buying trips to New York City over the years and enjoyed every minute of her career. Lydia's greatest enjoyment came from cooking and caring for the entire family and hosting the holidays. She loved decorating the house during this time. She enjoyed and was very good at making ceramic dolls and painting. During Lydia's life and into her retirement she and Ivo took many wonderful trips, from cruises to Europe and Alaska; to taking her children and 2 of her grandchildren to Italy, Switzerland, Monte Carlo and France. Ivo and Lydia made trips to the fall scenery on the East coast; trips to Yellowstone Park; Mount Rushmore; Hearst Castle; Bodie, NV; the missions of California and a trip to Oregon, Seattle and Canada and many more trips. The family would like to extend their gratitude for the wonderful care that Lydia received over the past year from Saint Joseph Medical Center of Stockton, CA, as well as the many employees at Meadow Wood Skilled Nursing Facility, on the grounds of O'Connor Woods retirement community, Stockton, CA. Special thanks from the family to Dr. R. Kass, Dr. T. Coates and Dr. D. Sloan, whose efforts over the past year were untiring and devoted to "what was best for Lydia" was always their concern. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to "Hospice of San Joaquin", 3888 Pacific Avenue, Stockton, CA 95204-1953. A Memorial Mass will be held on January 8th, 2011 at 10am at the Saint Michaels Chapel on the grounds of the Holy Angels - Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 1051 Harder Road, Hayward, CA.
